Nearly 25,000 residences in Queensland's southeast woke up lacking electricity on the start of the week after powerful weather events impacted the region, producing wind gusts reaching over 100 km/h.
Large Hailstones and Extensive Destruction
Homeowners witnessed giant hailstones as large as seven centimeters in particular locations. Weather authorities announced that multiple regions across Queensland had been hit with substantial ice precipitation.

Utility workers were working to restore electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews working to handle the extensive power failures.
Victorian Storm Challenges
At the same time, nearly one thousand energy customers in Victoria also experienced energy failures after the metropolitan area experienced its most precipitation in over 500 days.
State Emergency Services handled nearly 600 requests for assistance across the area, primarily for building damage but also for downed trees and flooding.

- Wyndham region - 179 calls for assistance
At one point on the previous day, in excess of 28,000 electricity consumers in the state were without power.
Weather Forecast
Moist weather were expected to linger along large portions of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.
The following day was expected to become the wettest day, with persistent storm activity expected across various areas of both regions.
Health Warning
Medical authorities warned that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the countryside regions, especially given the existing atmospheric conditions.
This alert comes after previous incidents where similar conditions led to substantial respiratory problems in the area.
