The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.

The organization did not mention the player by name in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice directly, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.

No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

Rice missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
